It’s genuinely insane that anyone is allowed to put that on a road

I’ve never seen anything this ridiculous in person, but I’ve seen plenty of dumb trucks. Things like maybe lift kits and low profile tires, wheels kicked out to the side…so setup for off-road but with zero grip, shit turning radius, wobbles on the highway, and also shit for towing.
The one that kills me is $80k trucks in the trailer park. Spend your money how you want, but it seems crazy to have a rapidly depreciating vehicle that’s worth more than your home.
There must me an easier way to prove how big your dick is.
- 14 days
Trailers aren’t cheap either. The park here has unremarkable units, not even new, in the 60-80k range. Almost a decade ago the lot rent fees were already over 500 a month, and they don’t even do any lawn care or snow removal.
- Tollana1234567@lemmy.todayEnglish14 days

I think there was an episode of South Park where they told all the angry men that the average penis size was much smaller than it actually was and then they weren’t assholes anymore
- njordomir@lemmy.worldEnglish14 days
I remember that episode, it was called “T.M.I.”
As far as the idea goes… it’s worth a shot. :D
- im_fine_sandy@nord.pubEnglish14 days
In fairness I would have thought this looked cool… When I was 12.
However, it’s almost a certainty that a “regular” truck could out perform this thing in every metric.
Its notoriously difficult to get the dual rear axles to provide a meaningful benefit to traction and even load capacity.
However, there will be a huge hit to economy, weight, acceleration, and handling.
In summary it would be an absolute pig to own.
- 14 days
I drive an old ass S10 and it gets better gas mileage and has a bigger bed than most of the newer bigger trucks coming out these days.

This is the key point. Most behaviour like this is pretty much identical to twelve year old kids wanting attention. I am going to guess anyone who wants to buy this has not received any real affection and attention from their parents.
socsa@piefed.socialEnglish
13 daysIt’s because when you are 12, you still have a baby penis and no testicles, which is exactly the requirement for owning this truck.
Dogiedog64@lemmy.worldEnglish
14 daysI personally know a guy who owns one of these things. He’s a mid-70s white guy who manages money. He lives in Washington DC. It’s the ugliest fucking car I’ve ever seen.

- Jiral@lemmy.worldEnglish14 days
I put aside my dislike for trucks that are used for commutes or even less than that but bpy, is that an ugly disfigured design, lacking any kind of proper proportions.
Luckily that Compensator 9000 is certainly not street legal in the EU.
- 14 days
Not legal in DC, either, but unfortunately that doesnt stop people
- 13 days
Must be nice, lol. Unfortunately, in the US, most rules around the road legality of a vehicle are enforced during inspections, which not every state has. Even the states that have them have a really low cost on the inspection, so mechanics who do them are incentivized to just rubber stamp them.
Other than that, lots of problems are considered a “secondary offense”, which means you won’t be pulled over for it, but you can be ticketed for it if you are pulled over for another reason. Broadly, I dont think that’s necessarily a bad policy, but it does have the effect where they end up being effectively unenforced unless the cop has a reason to want to hit you with the book.
- Jiral@lemmy.worldEnglish13 days
In the EU enforcement of traffic rules is a matter of member states, but many rules are codified on EU level, at least for what is street legal. That abomination above violates the common rules already quite clearly. It is thinkable that one can grey import individual cars and get a custom license for that but even than some modifications will be required, but that depends on the local authorities. In any case it must be hard or expensive as you basically don’t see that kind of nonsense on the streets.
If you are seen driving an obviously non-street legal car and can’t come up with papers to the contrary your vehicle gets immediately grounded, towed and you can call a taxi. If you are a repeat offender chances are you could lose your drivers license and when you are driving without one consequences can get much worse.
But hey, you can still get an Aixam for your mobility needs without a drivers license: https://www.aixam.com/en/ They even sell “Crossovers” for those with increased compensation needs.
- alcoholicorn@lemmy.mlEnglish13 days
Are RVs illegal in the EU? This doesn’t look bigger than those, just dumber.
- Jiral@lemmy.worldEnglish13 days
There are likely numerous things that make this hard to get street legal. The one I am pretty certain are the tires extending beyond the anyway entirely dysfunctional (non street legal) fenders. This is horrendously dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists.
- Echo Dot@feddit.ukEnglish13 days
The main differences that in the EU, if something is not legal, companies are not allowed to sell it.
- 13 days
Then how do people do things like auto racing on tracks if they can’t buy non-street-legal cars? Or off roading? You can definitely buy plenty of Unimogs that look effectively the same as this.
- Echo Dot@feddit.ukEnglish13 days
They can’t. This class of vehicle isn’t legal in the European Union it’s why the cybertruck isn’t legal (there’s a whole bunch of other problems with it as well but the weight limit is a major problem). If you wanted anyway just to have it on private property you’re out to luck. Someone did train import to cybertruck into the UK and had it confiscated.
I think there is a classification for vehicle that you can get if it’s something like a race car or rally car but it can’t be driven on the road and has to be driven around on a truck to move it.

Look closer. They are not like the vehicle above. None of them has tires that are extending beyond the fenders. None of them has dysfunctional fenders like that abomination above. Guess why.

Oh I love this. So many parts so exposed, if someone carried a grudge they’d just take a cordless angle grinder to it and it’d be disabled without you even noticing until you try to drive it away. Shit, you could just cut into the engine block sooo easily.
What the fuck are those actually supposed to be good for?
- Victor@lemmy.worldEnglish13 days
Why though. What’s even the utility of something like this?
Surely, surely… the inconvenience and cost of having something like this in your life must outweigh that of renting a trailer for those off times when you need to haul something.
That thing just looks so stupid and huge and bad.
- boonhet@sopuli.xyzEnglish13 days
Car guy here, let me explain!
Nah I’m just fucking with you, I don’t have an explanation. This doesn’t look fun to drive on roads and despite having more ground clearance than something like a Toyota RAV4 and 6 wheel drive and everything, I wouldn’t take it off road either. So much distance between the first and second axle. Damn thing looks like it could bend pretty easily if you drive it the way one ought to drive an off-road vehicle with a Hellcat engine: Like a trophy truck. Because trophy trucks are built to take that beating and this is almost certainly not. So you can crawl slowly with your 900 horsepower tuned Hellcat and watch some dude in a Wrangler pass you at a fifth of the price and a third of the engine size because smaller and lighter is an advantage when going off road over heavy and clumsy usually.
- Victor@lemmy.worldEnglish13 days
😆
Yeah dude, it just makes no sense whatsoever except as a dick extender. Such nonsense.

Fascists are all about surface aesthetics. That’s why everything’s about “optics” and “narrative” these days. They don’t have a sense of solid reality to any of it. So they see a film like Fury Road and think, ‘yes, cool. I must be like Joe’.
They have no sense that Immortan Joe is a desperate fool who has squandered the humanity of everyone in his orbit. If you try to talk about themes and interpretations, you will be met with scorn. That’s my experience.

Reminds of those pictures I used to draw of future vehicles with more huge wheels and tracks and sections than necessary. And there were usually laser cannons and grappling hooks on them.
This specimen appears to have neither a laser turret nor giant robot crane claw or saws mounted on it, thus, unacceptable.
