that’s because the point was to make a good movie not to make a perfect adaption.

Wouldn’t that be the other way around? If movie execs have the stereotype of producing inaccurate movies, wouldn’t they be expected to create an inaccurate movie, and thus feel vindicated, not confused, when one was successful?
