    involving minors

Didn’t Hefner report Epstein etc to the FBI but nothing came of it?

Edit: yep, Hefner reported Epstein in 2005.
Now, with that said, Hefner may have liked them a bit older than Epstein but still technically minors.
Either way they were both fucked up.

  • Alas, Hefner was very good at PR. His flaws got downplayed, and his virtues extolled. So the people pointing to his very ugly acts against them have an uphill battle.

I don’t think that anyone paying attention to how he treated the women in his life could ever come up with a positive outlook on him as a partner though. He was always leveraging a power imbalance with any of his public “partners”, and I only use that word because it’s less difficult to use than victims.

Like, yeah, he was smooth, charming, and talked a good game about sexual liberation and equality. And then he picked his girlfriends from women ( barely, but still adult women legally) dependent on him for their income. And treated them at best as disposable arm candy. That’s not what I would call a good person. It might not meet the criteria of abuse by some standards, but it wasn’t far off, and that’s only the public side of things. If his public behavior was that shitty, why would anyone assume he was better in private?

Don’t get me wrong, his magazine did have good points. It wasn’t entirely good, and could be very bad in some ways, but it wasn’t penthouse, and that’s the baseline of shitty. But him? As a man, as a human being? Dubious at best.

He’s dead, so I don’t really give a fuck about what happens with fiction based in his already fictional biographical face. But I also have zero problem with a dead person being judged without their day in court the way I would were they alive. He was not a good person overall, and he was definitely not a good man.

        • Any time I hear someone is a Chris Brown fan, I get so confused. It’s wild what people will ignore to continue to be fans.

          • Most people don’t care because it doesn’t directly affect them. This is how we got Trump, because too many selfish people didn’t think it would affect them, and now those people are coming around because all of a sudden it does.

What an amazing way to promote a film and increase buzz. Don’t for a minute think otherwise.

      • Yeah women love to talk about their abuse just to further corporate interests. It’s our fucking favorite hobby.

You live in the same world where the ultra wealthy fuck children with no punishment, but still assume that the same ultra wealthy won’t farm people’s emotions for financial gain… I bet you also think Taylor Swift is an eco-warrior…

          • This isn’t the first time she’s spoken out about Hefner’s abuse.

This is the first time you’ve paid attention.

You don’t know the first thing about me. You can believe whatever you want about this situation, but I guarantee this movie will get made, it’ll pretend to care about the subject matter and all that money will go right into the pockets of the very perpetrators people rally against.

              • You just accused me of being a Taylor Swift fan and you don’t know shit about me either.

Again, this isn’t the first time Hefner’s abuse has been talked about publicly.

              • You: I bet you think Taylor Swift is an eco-warrior!

Also you: Don’t make assumptions about me!

What point are you even here to make? This all reads like you’re trying to find something to get upset about but can’t decide what.

          • Yes, because there is so much money in talking about uncomfortable topics instead of nostalgic joyrides. The me too movement was essentially a giant money making scheme, right?

You can tell that you have a really great argument by how you bring up a completely unrelated strawman. Very cool, not at all bad faith.

            Asshole.
