I’ve seen variability, but 9:00am seems a bit earlier than usual. I feel like 10:00 is the standard, unless it’s a corporate hotel focused on business clients. Or maybe I’m staying at places that expect me to stay out late.
- 4 days
Yah, or check out by noon. There’s no universal time for either of these things.
- 4 days
I guess our experiences differ because 9am seems pretty standard to me.
- 4 days
I’ve seen both. But I seem to recall that 9:00 was more like a Marriott or Intercon where it’s not a vacation hotel, it’s a business travel hotel. Places where no one is there for work, I would say usually more like 10:00.

Hotel breakfasts are shit anyway. They are designed for salesmen up at 630 to eat then chase the Glengarry leads.

Especially when hotels have the gall to charge for them. Any diner will far exceed hotel breakfasts

4 daysJust go out into the city and find a nice café for breakfast. It’s often better than the standard hotel menu.

For the business guys running the local economy. The tourists need to pay full lunch prices.

Some napkins and an empty dining room that vaguely smells of limp corporate bacon.

We set an alarm to go get breakfast ASAP when it starts and then would come back and sleep another couple hours. Worked every time.

I have a very short window of time where I can do it. But there’s a fine line where, if my mind wakes up too much then I’m screwed.

So it’s not that you’re eating the breakfast as much as taking some back to your room and then eating it after sleeping longer

A severe case of “wrong hotel”. There are hotels for holidays, and hotels for business travellers. If they offer breakfast from 6 to 9, they are obviously in the “business travellers” category.
On the other hand, if your idea of a holiday is sleeping half the day, why bother leaving home?
- FishFace@piefed.socialEnglish4 days
coz in the half of the day that I’m awake, I can do entertaining things I can’t do at home?
I’ve never known a hotel that does breakfast beyond 10AM, and that usually at the weekend.
Ah such a sweet summer child. The vast majority of hotels aren’t for people on vacation. They are for business travelers. That is where the money is. Catering to vacation travelers is like McDonald’s serving breakfast, or a bagel shop selling dinner.

McDonald’s literally has a breakfast menu which covers over a quarter of its business
I knew there would be a few people who couldn’t see the forest for the trees. Congrats, you are one of them.

The point I sloppily tried to make is WRONG. But everybody else is the idiot.
You never even said my point was wrong. You just didn’t like one of the examples I used to illustrate my point. You said nothing about the other example. So you focused in on one example and ignored the point. And I never said you were an idiot. Nor did I even make a comment about everyone who disagreed with me. Just the people who focused on the example instead of the point. A very small subset really. But it does contain you.

Why aren’t you?
Nah seriously, horses for courses. I love a lie in, but then I enjoy making the most of a city I’ll probably never see again. So long as people head home enriched and happier, it’s a good holiday.

Because the best parts of being on vacation are seeing the local sights and culture, and eating good food. Sleeping in and then having free hotel breakfast at 11am seems like a waste to me. Go out for brunch, dog, you’re on vacation.
- THE_GR8_MIKE@lemmy.worldEnglish4 days
Nah. We sleep in and then stay up late as hell in the pool and going out for snacks in whatever downtown area we’re in. Not everyone has to do it like you.
MushuChupacabra@piefed.worldEnglish
4 daysBecause work life sometimes demands getting up very early against your will and sensibilities, and the act of sleeping in is freedom from that.
But I suspect that you already understand that, and just wanted to insert yourself to be difficult.

4 daysJetlag, mostly. Hangovers from a night out are another big one.
- 4 days
Because the nights go on much longer than usual doing stuff so why not sleep in when its an option?
