Was looking through old pictures, came across this one in 2017 while working A/V crew for a university. I forget what the function was that was happening, and there are no other pictures from the day to give any context clues.

People used to be so comfortable that they performatively liked things for the sake of irony. There’s no room for it anymore. We need genuine joy and earnest delight like we need air and water. You like IPAs, handlebar moustaches, and fixed gear bikes? You got music opinions? Good, enjoy that, crazy you can afford so many hobbies.

Here is my feel, irony and sarcasm are a protection mechanism and layer of distance from true self - just be yourself, like what you like.
I always saw the hipster trend as a bit of a bloom from the disease of emotional disconnection.
Plenty of hipsters still around, they’re just like 30+ now. Go to some craft breweries, hiking trails, climbing gyms, etc and you’ll find them.

The age range of hipsters is pretty wide. Hipster culture was very much alive and relevant when I was in college in the 2010s
