• Honestly, not a bad call.

They are cheap (loss leaders if you got a costco card) and they will feed a family for a night. Remainder of the carcass can be made into stock and that will make you way more than the asking price of the same liquid from your local grocer. Fresh home-made stock will bump up any rice or noodle soup you want. Plus, what you dont use quickly can be frozen into soup cubes.

Its easy to cook (if not a bit time consuming) to get $30 worth of stuff from a small $10 bird.

I would personally argue that turkey is a better poultry, but the american thanksgiving roast is the worst way to cook most parts of the bird.

    • And you mentioned Costco, which is only a $5 bird. Which is insane. Last one I got fed me for three days.

    Birds-of-paradise are all ridiculously mesmerizing

  • Reminds me of a line from an old British sitcom (I think it was Men Behaving Badly, but I’m far from certain):

They asked me to name a bird with a long neck. Apparently “Naomi Campbell” wasn’t right

My local grocery store has a variant where it’s 4-5 whole thigh pieces instead of 1 whole chicken, at around the same price. More bang for buck IMO, and fewer bones to deal with.
