• zuck did immeasurable harm to vr by trying to dominate the field. utter decimation of expectations. he made a fool out of all of it.

i like what i’ve seen about the steam frame so far and look forward to having one hopefully. never, not once, not ever, shall i pressure anyone else into it; it’s a personal interest, personal to ME and others who choose to adopt it.

    • Gee, it’s almost like pressuring people into something makes it super not enjoyable for anyone. Anywho, I’m off to Google something only to scroll past the AI generated response I didn’t ask for and can’t disable.

  • I still can’t believe people bought those stupid monkey digital photos

    • I still don’t understand the part where some got ‘stolen’ and were held hostage…

      • They were held in a poorly designed browser-based crypto wallet that only weirdos know how to use, so when normies wanted in on the get rich quick scheme, they would easily get confused and authorize third parties full access to the wallet.

    • I met someone once who had “invested” in these. Like, thousands of pounds. He thought he was super clever, talked down to us because we were so far out of the loop. I do wonder what happened to him. Poor guy.

  • Is it still possible to be in the Metaverse? Can I live my xbox360 graphics dreams and walk around the virtual McDonalds headquarters?

      • I know it exists allready for a very long time. But somehow I always forget about that. I don’t think I ever even tried it.

        • it was kinda cool around the same time OG WoW launched and up until late 2000s. After that it fell by a wayside because it was basically a bunch of chatrooms disguised as MMO. The only thing really worth checking out is the Chris Marker’s space - there’s a Youtube presentation about it

  • To be fair, nfts and vr were never forced on consumers quite like AI is. VR is incredible for certain types of gaming. NFTs are also incredible too. They allow you to quickly identify morons with disposable income.

    • Correct, the only idiotic thing about VR is buying your hardware from Mark Zuckerberg. As the folks in the VR community here are already aware, I got my Steam Frame the other day and basically the only reason I’ve had to take it off my face since then is because the thing has a finite battery life.

      • It’s funny how people were comparing the Frame to Quest, saying it’s DOA because of the price, niche device only for a few enthusiasts.

Meanwhile, the Frame is flying off the shelves and the waitlist seems to be twice as long as the number of the units available. :(

  • To be fair, crypto only enabled scams, NFTs imploded because of how useless they are and the metaverse seems like a dystopia to most people. AI on the other hand has changed the way I do my job significantly. It’s not just a promise, it’s a genuinely powerful tool.

      • Mainly the companies themselves. Id say 95%+ of their regular users are only negatively affected by them

        • “Guns don’t kill people, people do” level of fallacy. Gubs enable people to do it, as do LLMs enable companies to dial up the spam abf scams. Companies haven’t changed, LLM are the change and largely not to the better.

          • Ahem: “ChatGPT, anthropic, and the like are scamming their customers and provide a negative experience”. I was not placing the blame on scam companies, simply pointing out AI as a concept atm is like 95% scam and 5% stuff we can do anyways

        • Oh boy don’t start me on cr’apps. It’s insane how even working at a grocery store requires an andriod or ios. It would be one thing if they provided you a phone or whatever like they did when I worked in JcPenis. I can’t wait to get a holiday job and then ask how do I install that on my linux phone.
