• I used to be like “I won’t date people whose profile has astrology stuff in it”, I’m a hair away from extending that to “people who use therapy language in their profile”

      • I would pretty much assume someone was a narcissist if thet explicitly wanted to avoid language that could hold them accountable

        • That sounds more like a theseist. Narcissus didn’t want to use online dating, he actually didn’t want to date anyone. People kept asking him out and he always said no. According to Conon he “rejected Eros”, which is a fucked up religious way to say he was aroace.

          • Narcissus was a mythological figure known for his self-obsession, but ordinary narcissists can’t be self-contained like that; they need other people to support their self-obsession.

            • Oh, you mean the mental disorder? Narcissistic Personality Disorder?

Yeah, you shouldn’t be using that word if you don’t have NPD. The APA recommends person-first language (person with NPD) or identity-first language (narcissistic person). Label-only language promotes stigma, prejudice, and hatred. You shouldn’t promote hatred against people with mental disorders.

        • There are terms I’ve had psych professionals use with me in a clinical context that lots of people use in casual conversation in ways that range from counterproductive to abusive.

Also people who are insistent that everybody needs to have a therapist their whole life, including you, aren’t necessarily respectful of what you’ve been through or what treatment you have sought.

I think there are a lot of power trippy therapists out there and IME non credentialed people who like using those terms are not ppl it’s a good idea for me to date.

Also I think astrology is just dumb and completely uninteresting. Now, if someone wanted to ask my favorite alchemical process, that’s different (it’s rubedo, obviously).
