For 1200 years under the Ottomans, the Ottomans owned everything, and the local inhabitants were simply allowed to reside on the landNot true again, read about the Ottoman Land Code of 1858 for instance.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ottoman_Land_Code_of_1858
In 1858 the Ottoman Empire introduced The Ottoman Land Code of 1858, requiring land owners to register ownership. The reasons behind the law were twofold. (1) to increase tax revenue, and (2) to exercise greater state control over the area.
Opposition
Small farmers, however, saw no need to register claims, for several reasons:
Land owners were subject to military service in the Ottoman Army General opposition to official regulations from the Ottoman Empire Evasion of taxes and registration fees to the Ottoman EmpireOutcome
The registration process itself was open to manipulation. Land collectively owned by village residents was registered in the name of a single landowner, with merchants and local Ottoman administrators registering large stretches of land in their own name. The result was land that became the legal property of people who may have never lived there, while locals, even those who had lived on the land for generations, became tenants of absentee owners.
These were the large tracts Jews bought. Non-Jewish “owners” sold out their own “people” for profit in Jewish money. Later in the Ottoman era, when buying inhabited land became troublesome due the land containing existing inhabitants, it became more common for such purchase agreements to stipulate removal of occupants before payment. Owners- even Arab owners- willingly complied with this contractual stipulation, for Jewish cash. Laws can read one way, but the way they are put into practice in reality can hobble them or completely reverse their intent.

1 dayThe CIA also spent 13 years hunting Radovan Karadžić, a Serbian who was living a public life in Serbia.

2 daysOne of the deepest fractures in Israeli politics has emerged not over opposition to the country’s war crimes—but over who is expected to fight and who is exempt.
In case anyone’s confused the contradictions include regrets over what’s been done in Gaza.

It’s:
-
I want war crimes done by ME.
-
I want war crimes, but just enjoy watching not risking my life on them.

Looks like a lot of people are not happy with ultra-orthodox population are exempt from military service, increasing food prices and US starting to separate from them. There’s also an election on Oct 27. There is also a mention of veterans coming back with PTSD from the war. The CIA research is saying they are on the edge of civil war. But don’t quote me as the article has their sources that we can’t verify. Also I don’t think the CIA research won’t be released.

CIA reports what Isreal wants them to report. So Netanyahu wants you to think the country is close to collapse. So that he can justify emergency powers to keep himself in power indefinitely.

Seems like many prominent politicians are aging, nearing the end of their lives and just want to go out with a bang.

That would be the weirdest possible turn of events.
And like, every single supporter of Israel would be stumped, because they would need to think about which Israel to back.
Absolute cinema. Good idea for a fictional alternate timeline.

Yeah if you think Lebanon’s political breakup was messy…
This would make that look like child’s play.

I know it’s natural to feel schadenfreude at the prospect of state collapse in Israel, but fwiw, I don’t look forward to it with any joy.
If this is the next phase, so be it. But it will be very, very ugly. The violent collapse of Israel will not lead to relief for Palestinians in the short term.
Still, I’ve said for years: what Israel is doing to the Palestinians they are doing to themselves. Watching the corrosion of Israeli society, their violence has always looked like a manic frenzy of mass-self harm.
The violent collapse of Israel will not lead to relief for Palestinians in the short term.
How so? Presumably they won’t have time to kill Palestinians if they’re too busy killing each other, and while that is a gruesome thought it’s not more gruesome than what’s already happening.
