If they’re taught to read, and their parents take them to bookstores, and their friends talk about their books at the lunch table, yeah, they read. A lot of kids are missing one of those aspects.

You know you can still buy hats, right? Like any kind of hat you want. They’re still made. It’s just, we spend much less time outside, and outside is also much less dusty.
I don’t even mind these ones. It’s the ones that insist that they don’t lose weight in a calorie deficit that irk me, eg. saying they can’t lose weight because they have PCOS. Like you can just say you don’t want to lose weight. We don’t know you. We’re not the one stuck living in your body, you are.
No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's the best way to still something expensive that can't be shipped?bydisregardable@lemmy.zip
2 daysYeah, facebook marketplace is the new craigslist. You can make a post on Craigslist if you want, but I wouldn’t bother.
I’m sorry the truth upsets you, but it is the truth.
I’m not saying any of that isn’t true.
But the government can’t make you eat correctly. If you want to enjoy eating healthy, it has a cost. That cost includes learning how to cook affordable, delicious, and healthy food. It exists. It can even be made quickly. But you’re not going to magically develop that skillset by osmosis. You have to seek out new information and try new things. If you want to keep doing the same thing over and over, nothing is going to change.
People have a choice. They don’t want to choose to change their diets, embrace healthy eating, and learn to cook delicious vegetables. They want to keep eating a bunch of junky convenience foods, because it asks less of them. When they’re ready to put the work in, they will lose weight.

2 daysRiots and economic collapse. Gas gets food to grocery stores, and it gets people to work to be able to afford groceries. If they can’t do that, violence will be imminent. The transition to electric is a generational project.
Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the worst financial decision you've ever made?bydisregardable@lemmy.zip
3 daysMy entire existence is a financial mistake. To make a financial mistake, you have to have finances in the first place.
Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does it seem like religious people are less animal friendly?bydisregardable@lemmy.zip
5 daysWhat I said also applies to stewardship, though. They both still abuse animals and then say “But Jesus ate fish.”
Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How does pdoc knows if someone is actually mentally ill or not?bydisregardable@lemmy.zip
5 daysIt’s pretty rare for someone to pretend to have symptoms they don’t have, and if someone is doing that, they still have a problem that they need help with.
Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What about your current life wouls be the most surprising to you half a lifetime ago?bydisregardable@lemmy.zip
6 daysMy boyfriend cares about me. Like, deeply. Like he will go out of his way to do things to support me. I was raised being told over and over that men are selfish and generally more concerned for themselves than their wives. That I need to be prepared to shoulder more of the burden. This is weird. He’s super nice. I can’t get over it.
Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does it seem like religious people are less animal friendly?bydisregardable@lemmy.zip
6 daysIt’s not that they don’t like animals. It’s that they don’t view animals as equal to humans. They believe that god made them superior to animals, so what happens to animals doesn’t really matter.
No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why does Americanized Chinese food make me poop so much?bydisregardable@lemmy.zip
7 daysYou probably don’t regularly eat enough grains and vegetables. So on the contrary, rather than eating less Chinese food, you should eat more of it. And more of anything else that gets you to eat more plants.

My boyfriend is a teen librarian. He mentioned Percy Jackson and Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend, which is supposedly like Harry Potter. There were others but cannot remember.
