archive.today and archive.ph (also .is, .md, .fo, .li, .vn) are DDOSing a blogger (pic) who investigated them. They could also be Russian assets (js from mail[.]ru).

    This is why I never even started using Letsencrypt; looking at the fine print, you actually enter into some kind of contract with some US entity under US law, which I don’t want even if it’s the coolest of all FOSS foundations.

    I have used certum.pl for years and it looks like I might go back to them soon because my VPS provider doesn’t offer bundled certs anymore.

    I used to pay €40/year iirc.
    I suspect it’s gotten more expensive though.

    oh looks like ZeroSSL are doing it letsencrypt-style with Acme protocol for €0.

    No, not more expensive. Some of the providers in the above link are labyrinthine and I couldn’t even find a Pricing section - usually a sign that it’s too expensive at least for a normal consumer - but others offer yearly certs for as little as €30 (taxes not included).

    Yeah some people are going to have a hard time accepting that a contract with a for-profit company under EU jurisdiction might be preferable to a contract with a non-profit under US jurisdiction.

    When I started using federated social media I had to block a lot of people* who just mindlessly churned out posts with links to often dubious news articles etc. It became much better after that.

    And often they see themselves as knights in shining armor that “help the fediverse lift off”.

    It’s just another version of the terminally online forum regular.

    * judging by the usernames, often the same person using accounts on different instances

Several people claim PIR, the US organisation that manages the .org TLD, for being ultimately responsible.
They have a contact form on their website: https://pir.org/contact/
We should pepper them with complaints.*
Also there’s a pretty informative write-up here.

So yeah, antifascism is now terrorism according to the US gov.
Their website and mailing server has been taken down in Europe, too now.
Are they still willing to kiss his ass, or does the USA have the power to do that globally?

Only yesterday most DNS services allowed it (OpenNIC, NextDNS, and the big ones).

What is autistici.org

It’s the Italian volunteer technology collective Autistici/Inventati. Has been around for decades.

There’s been some reports on the fediverse during the past days, and personally I’ve been using them for years. Among other things they provide free email accounts for people who ask.

* and not ICANN. I have no idea how these things work internally; maybe ICANN defers power over such things to these TLD-orgas and avoiding US-controled TLDs is enough for the time being.
I would hate to think that the US can control ALL domains by bullying ICANN into submission.
