• See, in the ye olden days, people did not have the ability to get a dopamine hit by opening up their pocket demon. They had to make up activities with what they had around them.

This was before climate change had really got going. So back then they these things called “Apple Trees” and on those one could find “Apples.” Back in the before times they also had “water” which was like Brawndo (It’s what plants crave!) and for entertainment they would take this “water” and these “apples” and they would try to catch them like Pokemon using only their teeth! And that would give them a small dopamine hit and also signal their willingness to breed to other members of the species.

    • It had the added benefit of creating an “accidental” wet t-shirt contest.

  • When I was a kid my school still did this at the Halloween festival. Let me tell you, even at age 5 there was no way I was going to try and get one of those apples. That water was about 30% snot.

  • Duh, it’s the easiest way to find the perfect person with a really wide mouth and good teeth.

  • I did it once when I was a kid. It was pretty fun. As an adult, it grosses me out a little bit having everyone’s head in there

The one and only time I’ve even seen it happening IRL, I was in 5th grade and we were having a “Fall Fair.” This kid Michael was in line in front of me, and while we’re waiting, he’s absolutely inhaling a bag of mini pretzels. His turn comes up, and it’s a battle, but sure enough he gets an apple. Only problem is the clear plastic bin of water is now an opaque slurry of semi-chewed pretzel. The activity was called off. Fuck you, Michael.

Never understood the whole bobbing for apples thing

You put apples in water in a big boll. The people to get them out using their teeth only. It’s really quite simple. Now what might not know you is that older teens in some place play with a set of rules that are like Truth or Dare. It can get pretty wild!

Something about black and white photos from this era always seem to add an extra dash of ick, but… That water is murky AF and whatever it’s in looks like a filthy sewer pipe.
