• I just hate how most earbuds these days are “in ear”. Still love using my old Samsung Beans, and I will always refuse to call them by their real product name.

      • Interesting, hadn’t seen this before.

They keep emphasizing its comfortable, but it definitely does not look like it.

I’ve been using them for a while and am fairly happy with them. I like that they keep my ears open, and after wearing them for a bit I hardly notice they’re there.
There’s enough of a gap between the rear “drum” and the front piece that it doesn’t uncomfortably pinch the cartilage of my ear, even during extended sessions.
I know Bose and JBL have their own versions too, there’s probably other brands out there.

Not to say you have to run out and try them, but just so you know there be options.

          • Maybe my tone was a bit negative, I definitely appreciate you posting this! Good to know about alternatives, I’ll keep them in mind if I am looking for new earbuds. For now I went back to wired oldschool earbuds and over ear headphones. Still using the beans though every now and then, just their battery life is slowly getting worse.

    • I imagine the suckiness is relative to whether or not they use a cheap DAC to transmit the signal, though depending on when you last tried them even the bottom tier ones you might find in a cheap-o pair will probably perform decently enough.

Not earbuds, specifically, but I got a fairly cheap (I think it was ~$15) USB-C DAC to connect my phone to the 3.5mm jack in my car and the quality and volume of the audio is quite good without any extra power needed beyond whatever the phone provides.

Given that’s it’s an iem and a fairly bulky one at that, I imagine that’s a no.
