I have LineageOS on my phone and noticed the media player has the wavy progress bar on it. Not only that, a lot of music players also have it and lowkey I personally don’t like them. I find it hard to position where I actually want to be in the song and I just don’t like the constant movement. I rather a normal progress bar but that just a personal choose.

I have found the wavy bar to be both aesthetically displeasing and functionally worse. I have a harder time understanding where I am in a song or podcast and feel like changing that position is harder since the position doesn’t visually track with my finger directly. Very frustrating all around.
As someone else said, it would be a cute thing for a single app, but it should not have been made a part of the android design language.

It would be a cute detail, if one media player did that, but it being part of the general OS design language got me tired of it pretty quickly…

Can’t wait to completely ditch Android at this point. Mobile Linux still needs some time though, comparing to past years we’re quite close I feel.
This is part of Google’s Material 3 Expressive (M3E for short). A lot of apps have taken the reasonable approach of using the the Android design (M3E) to fit into the system (Also Android happens to make your life easier if you use M3E). This design language sucks in some parts. I personally don’t have an issue with the wavy progress bars, but i agree they should’ve added the option to turn it off.
If you don’t mind all animations being disabled you can get rid of the wiggling by turning on reduced motion.
Edit: It’s called Remove Animations and is located in the Accesibility settings under the Motion mmenu. It also seems to only disable the movement in the media notification for my music player (Auxio), likely a bug, will report to upstream.

It’s supposed to be animated, too?! Thought it was already bad enough as it is…
(Disabling animations is the first thing I do on a new device because why wait for animations when you have a brand new device that is supposed to be faster and snappy)

I was surprised when they added that to android auto and kind of like that the waves let me better estimate how far along the song is. I do think the waves on that are too big, a slight wave would be better. The ability to adjust the waves and turn it off would be best.
Not sure how the wave looks on LineageOS, just commenting on the wavy progress bar concept.

Android auto’s wavy bar is much more extreme peaks than the notification bar.

the incredibly stupid part is that on the developers side it was in alpha/beta for a long time. you literally had to use a beta version of the material library to add a progress bar, because the older one was not included. I’m not even sure it’s ready now
