The development of Grok is quite interesting to me. Musk has two competing goals:

    1. Make Grok smart
    2. Make Grok agree with Musk

Musk seems to be choosing some kind of middle ground. If you look at trackingai.org Grok falls into the bottom left quadrant, like every LLM. Of all LLMs however, it leans the most towards the bottom right.

  • These are the same people who say “the Confederacy was Democrats!” Because they have no way of looking past the absolute surface level.

    • They bite on even historical / antiquated propaganda and marketing. The socialism in “national socialism” was a marketing device to say “we care about workers too you guys!!!”. Nazis cared about the workers and respected socialism about as much as the “Democratic People’s Republic of Korea” cares about democracy, people, a republic, or even Korea.

🤦 It’s the world’s biggest suckers falling for it again and again.

Don’t say that, they 100% can and are just being disengenuous.

      • Maybe, but if you’re dumb enough to believe that the Confederacy or the Nazis were the good guys you’re dumb enough to believe anything.

        • 12 days

Intelegence has nothing to do with it, they are simply evil people who don’t care about others.

  • I miss the days when everyone agreed what a horrible thing Hitler was and the whole world learned from it & went a few decades resolutely never wishing to repeat any of his philosophies & atrocities.

    • In The Blues Brothers from 1980, John Belushi says “I hate Illinois nazis” and runs them into the river. There wasn’t anybody … anybody … back then who didn’t find that shit funny and well-deserved.

    • No, the right (most of it) still believes that Hitler was bad, they just refuse to accept that Hitler believed almost the exact same things they believe

By “everyone” you mean “people you interacted with to the extent to what they said to you.”

      • 12 days

Yes. Most people who use words to convey meaning, rather than as a weapon in some never-ending online battle of the wits, would instinctively understand this person was not implying they interviewed all of humanity.

Take from that what you will.

        • 12 days

Oh I understood it. Maybe I could have phrased it better but neo-nazis have always existed. They were just older and not on the Internet.

          • 12 days

Fair enough. Sorry for the shitty reply.

            • 12 days

Nah you’re fine, especially because you learned. Way too many people don’t account for biases like this. You’ll also see me around lemmy pointing out how, given enough people, shit is bound to happen. For example https://lemmy.today/comment/27425299

          • Bro stormfront was launched in 1996, and they were active in usenet prior to that. nazis have always been on the internet to meet, distribute propaganda, and recruit and they and fascists have always had a notable presence in tech nerds

      • 12 days

Not OP, but if you are asking if I miss the day that everyone I interacted with either believed or pretended to believe that Hitler was a horrific thing and a blight on humanity, then yes, yes I miss that. The fact that having an alternative opinion on Hitler is now socially acceptable is fucking horrible.

    4 3 5 2 1.

Top to bottom. That’s how you have to read this conversation. Fourth to third to fifth to second to first. Make it make sense.

      • That is how I always thought about it. And then when something is on the same indentation, it is top to bottom.

    • 12 days

It makes sense to my chronically online self but I couldn’t imagine being new to the internet and trying to decipher the reading order lol

By their logic the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea would be a great and definitifely not opressive place to live

  • The thing is, and sorry for being blunt, for the misinformed idiots who are not acting in bad faith, socialism for them means “when government does stuff”. Since Nazism is “government doing stuff”, the misinformed idiots think it’s socialism. What these folks mean is collectivism which is conflated with socialism. Socialism has a more specific meaning than just government doing stuff. Socialism values welfare for both the group and individuals, and worker’s rights. Collectivism is prioritising the group at all cost by abandoning personal freedom.

  • Lord Mangledick thinks his version of libertarianism is the true right wind ideology, everyone else is leftist.

  • To anyone here who is even willing to entertain the idea that the National Socialists were socialists: Look up the actual words to the poem “First They Came” and tell me the three groups they came for before they came for the Jews. Those are the verses everyone always seems to forget.

Then, once you’ve done that, look up the Wikipedia page on the Nazi Party and read the first paragraph. Not the whole thing, just the first paragraph.

  • uh uh, careful- hitler rejected non-“national”-socialists, his own darling invention, one word added onto what used to be the socialist german workers’ party. he found the “socialist german workers party”, fell in love with them, then added one word/concept, and really fell in love with his own hybrid creation, then deemed all the other brands (there were a lot going around at that time- these were all his street-level political group rivals) wrong and eliminated them, mostly by arranging a street thug gang the brownshirts, and sending them out on beat-down missions, to quickly run through an opponents’ rally, give everyone there a quick punch to the jaw, then run off. this intimidation tactic worked well, plus many other illicit tactics. later actions: seized tons of industry, but then put german workers into automatic jobs therein. this is a form of marxist socialism. i agree that its also fascist, just as i insist every version of other realized marxist-socialism was fascist: all the russian and chinese versions and satellite versions. all of them are both fascist and marxist-socialist, as realized.

History is written by the victors. So any kind of narrative that would fit the image allied forces have over World War II is now considered ‘historical consensus’.

That said, Hitler was a fascist who used leftist signal words to appeal to people who weren’t doing well financially.

History is written by the victors.

That is a myth though. Probably one of the most repeated myths on the internet.

So any kind of narrative that would fit the image allied forces have over World War II is now considered ‘historical consensus’.

That is complete bullshit as well. People who write such things have no idea how academic history works. Sure governments often have a tendency to have history presented in a certain light which fits their particular political agenda, but academic history functions quite independently of those governments, especially a field such as World War II, which is huge and transnational, being written from all sorts of perspectives and contexts.

Maybe a good indicator of that is: We still know about a lot of the horrendous things the USA has done over the centuries.

We didn’t “Heroically defeat a land of savages trying to tear apart this great natural wonderland, and graciously offer them sanctuary out west.” Instead we learn about it as the Trail of Tears.

        • 12 days

OTOH a lot of USAians in southern aren’t told about those things. But yes the information is available

      • 12 days

“History is written by the victors” feels like propaganda authoritarians would push to do things like, erase “slavery = bad” from history.

    • 12 days

So any kind of narrative that would fit the image allied forces have over World War II is now considered ‘historical consensus’.

If that were true they would have branded it as communism during the red scare.

History is written by whoever happens to write it down and historians interpret that in context of other sources and the author’s likely biases.

History is written by the victors. So any kind of narrative that would fit the image allied forces have over World War II is now considered ‘historical consensus’.

They have historians in the loser countries too.

    • 12 days

So you’re like just a Nazi?

The West and Soviet Union would both agree that Hitler was in no way socialist. If you find yourself that opposed to both sides of the allies that leaves very few political alignments that aren’t fascism.

Sure you say Hitler was a fascist too, but I can see no other motivations to try and disagree with the post’s statement of the facts.

    • False: history was written by people appointed by Ghisline Maxwell’s dad
