The final panel where the parents are so happy at (presumably) her/their misery is too relatable, lol. I wish more people wanted their kids, their family, and their friends to be happy.

Stop. Get out of that closet. Unless your life or liberty is at stake or something, you’re going to feel much better. If you’re worried that family or friends will disapprove, you’re trying to please the wrong people and you know it

15 daysI have already managed to erase them from my nostalgia matrix, as they were abusers. I wouldn’t dare perform social duties for their entertainment. Happy fall to found family. 🖕 conversionists.

Not the same, but I sympathize with this because I’m a dude and my family always hated long hair. I don’t even like it that long but they have always being super pushy and insisting me on men in the family cutting it down twice or thrice a month. And every time I’ve have my hair not cut for a few months they get really annoying telling me to cut it down, that I look like a homeless person or whatever.
I’m now an adult, but because I’m financially dependent on them I still do this (consciously or not) just to be less stressed and make them shut up. I can’t imagine how rough would be something similar with a trans person.

My family is the same way. Very conservative and will say the exact same thing as yours regarding the homeless comment and even accuse you of being closeted.
Really wish I didn’t have to deal with them.

Two or three times a month honestly sounds kind of insane. My mom always wanted me to have long hair and i never liked it. But i was also lazy and didn’t care, so i often had long-ish hair.

Yeah, but men here REALLY love stupidly short buzz cuts.
Also, short hair is cute. Long-ish is cool as well.

🫂 recognisable, I had this for a while too… my parents got around though when my egg broke, luckily!

Me as a trans girl who told my parents and then gave them enough time to stop being weird about it: “That’s heartbreaking, can’t relate thank god”
Like it wasn’t easy, but I haven’t been misgendered at home in months which is surprising thb

I stopped talking with most of my family. They’re not evil. They clearly care, but can’t help but put you down.
It’s ingrained in me. My reactions and thoughts feel poisoned. I catch their thoughts in my head and take a moment to reset.
Sometimes, I feel like I can’t laugh because it sounds too much like them. I feel dumb or unproductive when experiencing comfort or joy.
Obviously, this isn’t inherently a trans issue as I’m not transgender, but I sympathize. The gap in my case is religion, but not really because the issues go deeper than that.
I think people brave enough to decide who they want to be will always encounter resistance from people who are bitter from a lifetime of obedience to imaginary social constraints. It’s invalidating to them for you to be happy and also yourself.

Better you make their laughter your own than let them prevent you from laughing.

13 daysmaybe I could’ve just taken it instead of being honest. probably would be in a better position in life. honesty made a lot of things hurt and important people leave.
but logically I know I couldn’t have, and that it wouldn’t have been better at all. it would’ve just been this, this hollow imitation of the way things are supposed to be.

I feel that. As much as being trans makes things difficult and scary, going back was never an option for me.
