“People who live on a volcano are more worried about it erupting than the rest of the world.”

Ironically, the US is also home to one of several supervolcanoes that could destroy civilization

Not to fret!
I am the guardliest guardrail of volcano stopping super stoppers and MAGMA, that’s just a letter away from maga which, you know, is really a guard AGAINST the crazy radical left antifa volcano supporting dummycrats… And that’s why POTATO.

I was excited about AI until American billionaires forcefully shoved it down our throats and every company started drooling and putting AI “features” (bugs) everywhere.

7 daysmy theory: i feel like the first wave of any product is overhyped and has less accountability to deliver.
"Hoverboards (2015) The “self-balancing scooter” became a global sensation almost overnight, with demand skyrocketing across retail and online markets. Because manufacturers rushed to meet this sudden explosion in demand, quality control was ignored. This led to a wave of defective lithium-ion batteries that frequently overheated and caught fire, resulting in massive recalls and bans in several countries.
The Segway (2001) Before its release, the Segway was shrouded in extreme secrecy and hype, with some predicting it would “change the way cities are built.” When it finally launched, the reality didn’t match the excitement; it was too bulky for sidewalks, too slow for roads, and far more expensive than consumers were willing to pay for its actual utility. "
straight off the top of my head… Blu-ray . everyone said it was better. it triggered the need to have “the latest greatest tech” but now… i dont even know how that would have benefited me, personally. it would have been more rational if they had a more tangible benefit… like a smaller disk.
also gameboy. …however i cant think of any criticism aside from costing alot.

Probably because most of the world still has ethics and humanity.
Our country is just greedy, mentally ill, sociopaths in charge and everyone is fine with it
- Echo Dot@feddit.ukEnglish6 days
It’s the “everyone is fine with it” bit that’s the problem. The institutions that are supposed to operate as checks and balances on the ability of the president have simply have failed to do their jobs, and no one’s picking up on their behalf.
Other Western nations have had their fair share of idiot leaders, but everyone just makes fun of them, including the media, and then eventually their approval ratings drop so low they’re forced to resign, or they kicked out by their own party for the purposes of self-preservation.
It is often said that Boris Johnson was the UK’s Donald Trump, but not really because other than whatsherface no one liked Boris Johnson, he certainly didn’t have an army of sycophant idiots hanging on his every word. Everyone just laughed at him, constantly called him out on his BS, and eventually his own party turned on him, or risk getting booted out of parliament for an entire generation.
- Yuccagnocchiyaki@lemmy.worldEnglish6 days
It’s true. The people were able to fend off could in S Korea and Brazil.
But people don’t seem to realize the level of background investigation and psychological exams that someone like a president goes through or has done to them.
This means that EVERYONE knew what he was and what he was going to do, and…they attack progressives

A country with a service based economy is allowing tech bros and billionaires to ram a new technology down the throats of the entire population with little to no oversight. People have already lost jobs because of layoffs after their company replaced them with ai. Americans are worried about their livelihood and the dangers the data centers pose to their communities.

Zero protections for employees paired with the fact most Americans are living paycheck to paycheck while the C suite keeps firing people to pay for their AI adoption. I understand why Americans are concerned.

Americans don’t have effective social safety nets. They are eliminating a lot of what we do have. I guess we have to pay for Israel’s socialized health care, education, and genocide somehow.
We’re living on pins and needles to fund demons.

I think Americans can clearly see conservative leaders and oligarchs want to use AI to oppress us.

Americans have more exposure to AI. The rest of the world will come around.

Because we know precisely how psychopathic our political and business leaders are, and they are already openly hostile to the Citizens.
Stephen “PeeWee Himmler” Miller has said that he wants to reduce the population to $100 million, about a 70% reduction. They are already looking for ways to eliminate people, they aren’t going to block any vehicle that helps achieve that objective.
Other countries are positive that their nations won’t use AI to deliberately murder much of their population. We are positive that they will.

I wonder how many Americans, while believing they are a sophisticated culture, understand this is a test of their common existential narrative… which is backward and evidence of an inability to scale given modernity
