Like… 1% of the US population is trans? Even if they disappear, what exactly would change? Gas prices?
- kat_angstrom@lemmy.worldEnglish7 hours
I raised this recently with my conservative, religious mother. Her reply with a stammering of, “well, they’re going against god’s plan, and trying to change the way that god made them!”, entirely ignoring my point about how there are countless and far more important things going on that affect way more people. It’s madness

Sometimes I pray to God thanking him that he didn’t make me trans. So sorry for the folks that have to endure this madness first person

Nah trans people’s existence challenges essentialist gender narratives, which indirectly challenges patriarchy.

Well yeah. In some sense, if you are anti trans, you are anti AI

You have seen trans people in public without realizing they are trans.
- Warl0k3@lemmy.worldEnglish18 hours
The best estimates I’ve seen put it at 1% of the US population over 13 (0.8% of US pop over 18) being genderqueer - and of that one percent, it seems to be evenly distributed between transmasc, transfemme and the terrifying enby blob we use as a catchall for “other”.

The website didn’t post the text of what was said and only offered a link. To prevent someone from getting clicks, I have screenshot the text. Please note I don’t condone this language or behavior.

Yeah it’s so weird. “The advocate will not reproduce the slur.” So now I have to actually click through to shitty truth social to get the full picture? Do you really think that is better?

Thanks for sharing.
It is such a bizarre time from a reporting standpoint.
At best, the orange buffoon communicates via word salad even when he isn’t dropping slurs and infantile insults. The print and online media get placed in this position to report on his comments, but if they just print the text of his comments, it is so unjustifiably disjointed and confusing that the reporters themselves would seem irresponsible to not “clean it up” or paraphrase it, but the number of [bracket quotes] and interjections of (sic) would be so aggressive that any reader would be lead to believe the reporter could be taking liberties with the meaning of the original quote. So, reporters tend to summarize his statements and use only very brief quotes, but I think this gives Trump more intellectual credit than he deserves—the message actually reads as cogent, with direct quotes of the most inflammatory bits seeming intact. The reporter takes on the role of Trump’s publicist, in a manner, by writing a professionally polished article on the words of demented degenerate.
And all of that is before the sensibilities of online and print news sources force editorialized reporting of his slurs. It is completely insane that we feel-the-need-to and actually-do sanitize the hate speech which comes from the US President. I genuinely question if it is better to censor the slurs in the interest of decency, or if it is better to print the slurs as directly attributed quotes, also in the interests of decency—but more in the context of highlighting what we, as a people, are permitting from our President.
I don’t know, it feels wrong to me to censor his slurs in the same way it seems wrong to censor the ugly parts of our history we are not proud of, but need to be honest about learning from.
This timeline straight up sucks to suck.

20 hoursThis is what surprised me about his popularity with the working class back when he was first running. I’ve been watching Trump since the '80s and he’s never even once given up a chance to shit on the working class. He’s infamous for not paying for work done. That’s a whole bunch of working class people who got shafted by him all across the USA.
The same working class who then thought he was their saviour in Washington.
There’s a reason why I just don’t give a shit about Americans anymore.
