• Started exercising every day. All I do is 10 pushups, 60 seconds of planking, and 30 sit-ups. It takes less than 10 minutes and I’ve done it for about a year and a half and I’ve got a nicely toned stomach and better core strength from it. I’m pretty happy about it and it definitely makes me more confident. I also watch what I eat. I’ve lost about 40lbs in that time

  • Start working out. Seriously. A little cardio and a little strength training will go a long long way to improving your quality of life, even if you’re not getting jacked.

    • Agree, and I’m someone who hates working out. Someone recently commented on exercising like “why would I choose to be miserable to 30 minutes a day”, and I can honestly say it’s because it makes you feel so much better the other 23 1/2 hours day. The smallest bit of cardio will make you more energetic, you don’t get winded going up stairs, you can move easier, it’s such a win. Yes it’s miserable, but it is worth it.

      • I’m so jealous. I have pots and now that I’m old, high intensity exercise is impossible. I bought a bike, if that doesn’t work out, I’m out of ideas. I have pretty severe depression and I long to feel that feeling every day.

I have severe pots too. Might sound obvious, but try aiming for medium intensity like fast walking and compound exercises like beginner-intermediate calisthenics such as inverted rows.

If even that is too difficult there’s stuff like recumbent bicycles but those are expensive.

        • Oh, there are sooooo many types of exercises! Search and try things YouTube can offer. I sometimes do the smaaall morning routine- stretching neck, moving shoulders, waist, hips, knees and ankles. It takes like 5 mins, but feeling rest of the day like -15 years. It’s impossible to call them exercises, just a minimal movement. Like they did at school years ago before starting classes.

        • Good news! Exercise helps against depression! Biking is a very good way to get moving if you have other health issues. I’d also look into swimming if you have access to a pool (or a lake or ocean where it’s safe to swim).

      • Quick question please : what kind of workout do you do ?

I mainly run, but running more than 3 times a week tires me and my knees start to hurt

        • you need to try different things to find what works for you.

there are tons of different ways to exercise. running is just kind of easiest because it has no equipment, training, etc requirements.

swimming is better than running for sure, but it requires access to a pool/water.

    • It’s amazing that I’m older yet I have significantly less back pain just from working out semi regularly.

    • This is the way. I’m fitter, stronger, and look better in my mid 40s than I did for most of my 30s. I hurt less, I’m more capable, and I look at the future with a lot more interest and less trepidation.

  • I kept buying scissors until i can always find a pair of scissors

    • I did this for reading glasses.

Now I find them all hanging out in a novel hiding place, how do them manage this grouping behaviour?

    • 5 days

I’ve done this with a lot of tools

hex keys, scissors, utility knives, and screwdrivers can be found on every level of my house and in the garage, as well as in dedicated tool sets (i.e. bicycle toolbox)

no more “oh I need to go get this tool to fix this one minor thing. that’s annoying me every time I use it”, it’s at most ten steps away and I can do it now

    • I stopped drinking a year and a half ago, quit vaping 3 years ago (quit smoking butts a few years before that) and in the last 5 years or so have significantly inproved my diet. Holy crap do I feel better. Less fatigued, more focused, sleep better I can go on. I still smoke more weed than I should, need to try cutting that out at least for a little bit too but its my last vice…

    • I looked into this a few times, but my particular toilet seems to have a ceramic curve to it that would block the positioning of most bidet attachments. I should try again, it’s surely not impossible, but discouraging when most reachable hardware stores only have one or two.

      • You should get the hose kind. They just kind of hook onto the side of the tank.

Not as elegant, but they’re effective.

Deactivated Facebook about 6 years ago. That shit is toxic and anyone that still has an account supports it.

    • Unfortunately a lot of local communities and businesses around me only update Facebook. Last time the transfer station closed last minute I went there with a load of trash and had to bring it back home, only place that it was posted was the Facebook page. Not to mention u need it if ur ever going to buy a used vehicle private party among other things. I REALLY wish there was an alternative, I miss craigslist for buy/ sell but fb still needed for local information unfortunately :/

Those local community business have websites. I guarantee it. There is no excuse to support a business that protects child abuse fetush and rape.

        • A lot of businesses do, but the town transfer station? What am I supposed to do start dumping in the river instead? Lol not to mention if I wanna know why there was a fire stack coming from the railroad the only place that had information was the county fire response Facebook page. I promise you the more rural of an area your in, the less escapable Facebook is. Can’t just pick another business when the next nearest is going to be 50+ miles away :/

    • Glad you got away, nobody deserves toxic people in their lives

    • Respect. Sometimes ya gotta take stock and make the tough call for your sanity. Hardest transition you made, though, I bet.

  • Make stuff. With your hands, stuff that will last when you walk away from it. I spent a lot of time doing admin/office work, and you can be productive as hell but have nothing to physically look at for your time. I took up woodwork, started doing more building work on my property, and every time I look at what I’ve made, it makes me feel more connected to my home, and more capable of dealing with these weird times we find ourselves in. Learn skills, try different things, round out your experience in life. Make stuff you think is beautiful, or that makes your life better in some way, it’s a great feeling

  • Gotten top surgery. I knew my quality of life was going to improve by virtue of not having boobs that gave me dysphoria, but I thought I would have to wait until I was fully healed to feel it. My mood and outlook changed pretty much day after my surgery. It feels great :)

    • If you’re on the fence just do it, I don’t know anyone who regrets it.

    • Hey me too! Best decision could have done for myself, I feel like I am super charged now and my guts have never felt better.

  • Therapy, switching to linux, taking steps to transition, coming out to a friend irl

    In that order
