Amid political pressure and rising energy prices, the European Commission is considering pausing a part of its landmark methane regulation, which is set to take effect in January.
The move comes after French President Emmanuel Macron urged the Commission in a September 18 letter to postpone new methane reporting requirements and ease other fuel-related rules in response to increasing costs exacerbated by the Iran war.

Ridiculous that France is even contemplating it, they are in an excellent position to go full renewables/nuclear fast

10 daysThe best way to deal with high prices of fossil fuels is to transition away from them. For that having high prices is a good incentive.

Yep, moved away from fossil fuels the moment I was responsible for paying the energy bill. Within a month I called the provider to cut the gas connection because I don’t want it.
I spent more than strictly necessary but part of that was for partner approval. About £7k total and I could have had it with an interest free loan if I wanted which would be paid for by the energy savings but I had the money so I just paid it outright.

Are you a homeowner? Because as a renter its sadly not thst easy (here). I live in one of the densest and highest priced areas of germany, and the slumlords here love gas (for heating). Old infra is still replaced as-is mostly, since the renter has to foot the bill. If you want to get rid of fossil fuels for heating, you have to spend a lot more and are basically forced to rent a much nicer, crazy expensive apartment (not because of the energy, but because only very nice/newer ones are energetically moderized).
