        • Because the original American Gothic painting everyone assumed it’s a man and his wife, but the artist tells us it’s a man and his daughter. And most of us have trouble wrapping our minds around that.

          • this is the ‘version’ more americans may be familiar with:

            eddie albert and eva gabor (who play a husband and wife) from the titles of green acres which ran for 170 episodes over six years back in the early days of color broadcasts, and decades of syndication and streaming since.
